PROYDE has an active presence on 5 continents, and promotes numerous Development Projects.
Africa
The majority of our projects take place in Africa. PROYDE´s work is especially significant in Eritrea, where we were the pioneers for other Spanish NGOs, like Intermón, Manos Unidas, y Cáritas.
We also have a permanent and important presence in West Africa, in Togo, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Conakry, Equatorial Guinea, and Burkina Faso.
We have also carried out projects in other African countries, including Ethiopia, Madagascar, Rwanda, Nigeria, Somalia, Kenya, Chad, Cameroon, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Africa.
America
The second continent, in both number of projects carried out and in economic resources employed, is America. While PROYDE’s presence here is widespread, much of our activity is located in Guatemala, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Paraguay.
We have also carried out projects in Mexico, Ecuador, Panama, Cuba, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile.
Asia
Our work has been primarily focused in India, in the Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat states, and in Sri Lanka.
We have also carried out diverse projects in Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Pakistan. In the Middle East, we have worked in Lebanon.
Oceania
Finally, PROYDE has begun to work in Oceania. In 2010, we started our first project in Papua New Guinea.
Eastern Europe
PROYDE has been collaborating with stakeholders in Eastern Europe since the early 1990s, specifically with Romania. In the wake of the socioeconomic and political crisis in the country, we intensified our efforts in Romania. As such, in 2000, PROYDE received a grant of 700,000 euros from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for a three-year project which would focus on constructing a center for professional development in the province of Pildesti, in northeast Romania.
More than 1,100 Development Projects
PROYDE has carried out more than 1,100 development projects around the world. The majority of these projects are related to educational development, especially focused on supporting disadvantaged populations, including children, young people, and women.
The 10 countries in which PROYDE has carried out the most projects are as follows: Togo, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Conakry, Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia, and India.
Most of PROYDE’s projects and programs relate to the education sector. In fact, from 2003-2004, 80% of our budget was allocated toward education projects, and only 1% went toward emergencies. The rest was dedicated to projects in agricultural development, food security, and infrastructure.
To illustrate the breadth of PROYDE’s work, from 2003-2004, PROYDE managed 93 projects in 30 countries, and in this same period, allocated 2,587,891.51 euros to its work.
PROYDE´s accounts are audited annually by an external auditing company and approved by the General Assembly. Furthermore, since 2003, PROYDE as a non-profit NGO has submitted itself to the Loyalty Foundation audit on transparency, and has been named an accredited NGO by the organization.
From 1995 to 2004, PROYDE dedicated over 12 million euros to development projects.
